TVM acquired the old St. Peters elementary school from the local School Board once it had been declared surplus to the needs of the Board.
The building had a North wing with classrooms and a library on three floors along with a South wing which housed a gymnasium with a running track and 1000 seat auditorium with balcony seating. There was no elevator in the school.
TVM removed all interior partitions, systems and finishes at the building. An internal excavation was done to create an elevator pit that could service all 4 proposed floor levels. The gymnasium space was split into two levels with the new level set at the height of the previous running track. The auditorium was split into two levels with the new level set at the balcony height. The sloped floor of the auditorium was brought to level.
TVM constructed 48 residential apartments, a commercial office and a community room within the building. All of the apartments offer highly enhanced levels of accessibility, including side-opening wall ovens, bottom freezers, lowered counter tops, roll-in showers, extra wide power operated suite entry doors, shallow kitchen sinks with corner drains and a variety of client specific suite enhancements.
The office space was created for Kawartha Participation Projects (KPP). KPP delivers services to those living on their own within the community. Many of the apartment suites within the building are occupied by clients of KPP.
